Using a series of graphics in combination with larger scale installations, we helped the naturalists at Hocking Hills State Park tell the story of the area's history, geology, and habitats in an engaging and dynamic way. I worked with a small team on space planning and the development of exhibit installations, and lead the development of wall mounted graphics and AV exhibit experience design. The upper level of the center features a trail simulator that allows hikers to prepare for conditions they might find out on the trails, as well as several large scale graphics and a few interactive AV exhibits focusing on trail safety, trail destinations and preparing for a hike. Downstairs, the focus shifts from trail safety to the history and ecology of the area. A large fabricated cave wraps itself around the central stair, highlighting geologic features found in the park. Informational graphics ranging topics from local flora and fauna to the ancient peoples of the Hocking Hills line the space’s perimeter, featuring artifacts like tools used to carve stairs into the trail and a wide array of arrowheads found by naturalists and historians.
