This installation is an exploration in color theory and the use of color and light in architectural spaces to create certain atmospheres, focusing specifically on qualities of light that affect changing color in space. The ‘room’ is wrapped in perforated walls, glazed with pigmented acetate to create two distinct experiences. Outside the room, the installation is a dark object, articulated with a series of colored squares which transition from red to yellow around the corner. Inside, the light coming through the perforations creates a bright, light filled space dotted with colored shadows on the floor, ceiling, and walls. The shadows move throughout the day as the natural light outside the room changes; when light is hazier the shadows begin to blend together and cast swaths of color across the room and when light is more focused the shadows create a colorful pattern articulating the otherwise blank walls. A prism is included as a kind of plaything, allowing visitors to experiment with the colored shadows on black and blue surfaces, as well as redirect portions of light to create new shadows.
